New Ideas for Show
THE STAGE, OCTOBER 15th 1959
New ideas inside the programme content of STV’s mid-day show The One O’Clock Gang are adding variety to this much-watched and often-criticised progamme.
Each day sees a different feature, one of the most popular being Larry Marshall’s record disc jockey spot each Tuesday, when he usually interviews a visiting celebrity from the theatre world.
One idea yet to be tried out – and surely it can’t be long delayed – is to have a three-station link-up at midday between Scotland’s One O’Clock Gang, Tyne Tees Television in Newcastle’s The One O’clock Show and ATV in Birmingham’s Lunch Box.
It would call for engineering ingenuity and directorial ideas, and we could see two comedians and two singers on screen at the same time (but from different studios).
A chat between the respective Larry Marshall (Scottish TV), Noele Gordon (ATV) and Terry O’Neil (Tyne Tees) personalities would reveal interesting viewer reaction in the regions.
[Note: Ultimately this didn’t happen, but STV did take Lunch Box as its summer replacement for their own show.]
